Type of Battle:

A ferocious and lethal 35 over a side crusade.

Battle report:

The Tuaregs embarked on the first match of their new season, ever hopeful for a new approach and winning ways.

With brand new kit, optimism was running high.

Rob White had done a brilliant job of capturing this early season enthusiasm by assembling a team of only nine people...

We lost the toss and fielded in the blazing sunshine. The Tuaregs bowling attack soon wilted and it wasn’t long before the River Bank Ramblers had to contend with the Tuareg second string bowlers launching hand-grenades.

As balls looped upwards and rained down on the oppo. they had no problem smashing the ball liberally, to all parts of the park.35 overs later the tired and exhausted Tuareg team left the field, having conceded 228 runs. Well over 6 an over!

The Tuaregs have only made more than 200 runs once before, and that was when they started batting at 11.00 a.m. Needless to say with our shinny new kit, we somehow felt anything was possible.

The Tuaregs were eventually all out for 123, after a painfully awful batting display. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals and we even had to suffer the ignominy of watching our leader falling over after a glorious cover drive and being stumped.

This was one of our worst defeats ever. Never before have the Tuaregs lost by over 100 runs. Well done Whitey.

Despite this, optimism can be drawn from the performance. Firstly the Team enjoyed themselves with some players contributing, secondly the Tuaregs are at least maintaining some form of consistency and thirdly this is the only match that Whitey is running.

Result:

Absolute and totally crushing defeat

Mong-Moment: Despite our loss, this award goes to an opposition batsman. One of the Tuareg bowlers (Oliver Moorby) launched a hand-grenade, it landed near his feet and rolled along the ground towards the batsman, he missed the ball, which bounced off his pad, trickling onto his stumps and bowling him. How embarrasing..
