Battle report:

The Tuaregs decided to organise the Six-a-Side tournament. We had invited three other equally talented teams, all in the vain hope we could win our own competition. It was also thought that, of all the games played this season we would be able to raise a full side!

Vast campfires were erected and a magnificent bar-b-q arranged to allow for all day merriment and tribal feasting. Large numbers of tribal follows turned up to watch and amuse themselves at the comedy version of cricket, first pioneered by the Tuaregs, that was so obviously on display. It was a truly grand event.

Each team played each other once and was awarded 3 points for a victory. The Taureg tribal committee toyed with the idea of awarding one point if a team lost. This would have ensured that the Tuaregs did not finish scoreless in their own competition. What a shame it was not implemented.

The two group winners would compete in a final to fight it out for the fine and magnificent prizes; One bottle of Asti-Spurmante and a free building quote from The Chief Mong.
So the tournament began. The smells of sausage and chicken wafted across the pitch and the great teams did battle. The Tuaregs got off to a flier loosing their first match off the last ball. There was much scampering and running about as the teams jostled and competed to eliminate the each other. It will come as no surprise to our regular readers that the first team to be eliminated from the competition was the Tauregs. We had failed to score any points.

The litany of awfulness was apparent every time the Tauregs touched the ball. Drop catches, balls rolling between legs and mong bowling was the Tuareg creed. At one point, whilst chasing a challenging score, two Tuareg batsmen got out first ball and we lost ten runs! The Tuaregs didn’t even beat the team who had the chief mong playing for them!

Anyway the Rapscallians and the Stragglers finally reached the final, with the remaining Tuaregs helping with the umpiring and changing the scoreboard.

The eventual winners were the Stragglers. They were overwhelmed by their prizes and left content and gallant victors. Well done Aiden Cooney and his lads.

Mong-Moment:

Apart from the usual amount of chinless mediocrity the Tuaregs also managed to surrender when apparent victory was in sight. Matt White’s Ringers needed three runs off the last ball. The Chief, who was bowling, sent down a wide. The rules of the tournament awarded a 4 run penalty for every wide bowled. The rest is history.
